Shirley Hay (Nee Phemister)


HAY: Shirley (Nee Phemister) June 18, 1917- December 21, 2016

It is with sad hearts that the family of Shirley Hay announce her passing on, in her 100th year (June 18, 1917).  She will be greatly missed by her sister, Beatrice Phemister, her children David (Margaret), Rob (Sharon) and Laura McGibbon.  Gramma will be missed by her nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.  Shirley was predeceased by her husband John in 1950.  Wthl small children, she remained at home until she was able to complete the education needed to become a Field Worker with Ontario Community and Social Services.  Many in Niagara Falls and Fort Erie appreciated her sincere efforts to help.  After 26 years she retired to her gardens and UCW unit where she contributed greatly until her health slowed her down.   As per Shirley’s request cremation has taken place.  A private family service with interment at Lundy’s Lane Cemetery will be held at a later date.  Donations in her name can be made to the Humane Society of a favourite charity.
