In the early hours of March 26, 2019, Monica Davis succumbed to an aortic
aneurysm. For her many friends, acquaintances, caregivers and family,
the sense of loss is sincere and heartfelt. In her own way, she touched
the lives of many.
Monica Rose Watson was born in January 1932 at the family home in
Waltham on the Wolds, England. Her parents, “Jack” and Olive, along
with her younger brothers John and Peter, emigrated to Canada in 1956.
(Monica arrived the year before to nurse at the St. Catharines General
Hospital.) In that same year, Monica met her future husband while
playing tennis. Stan Davis and Monica married in 1957. They had twins
Ann and Ian in 1958 and then Keith in 1960. (Sadly, Monica’s daughter Ann
passed away in 1983 and husband Stan in 1986. Brother John passed away
in 2006.) In the early 90’s, Ian and daughter-in-law Trish Baird brought
grandson’s Stuart and Alec into her life.
Besides raising a family and working, Monica was a committed volunteer.
Her involvement extended to the Winter Club, Eastern Star, Lady
Shriners, Horticultural Society, Civil Air Search and Rescue, and PFLAG.
Additionally, Port Dalhousie’s St. John’s Anglican Church became a very
important part of her life and identity. She joined the choir, became
actively involved in church life, and joined in Worship.
Monica leaves a fine legacy with family, friends, and her many
